PHOTOGRAPHERS: Would a "Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Nikkor SLR Camera Lens" work with a Nikon D5000?

Sorry for the long title, I'm just looking into buying a nice zoom lens for my D5000. I'm new to this whole business, so I really don't know what works/doesn't. Any help would be fantastic! Thank you!
